Wood as a jewel: why we chose this natural material

At Curruchela, each piece of jewelry is born from a purpose: to create with respect, with a measured gaze, with a love for what endures. While other brands choose cold metals and perfect surfaces, we focus on the beautiful imperfection of nature: wood .

Not just any wood. In our workshop, we work with fine woods, individually selected for their beauty, durability, and responsible origin. Boxwood, ebony, and bubinga are our main allies. Each with its own soul, texture, and history. Together, they allow us to create jewelry unlike anything else you see.

Wood: living beauty, warm touch

What we love about wood is its life. It's a material that has grown slowly, with the rhythm of time, and that retains that organic pulse within. Unlike other materials, no two pieces are the same . Every grain, every tone, every knot tells a unique story.

When a person wears a piece of wooden jewelry, they're not just wearing a design: they're wearing a way of being in the world . Down-to-earth, with a sensitivity for nature and a taste for the essential.

Boxwood: Galician subtlety

Boxwood is one of our most special woods. Native to Galicia and other northern regions, its fine, compact texture allows for precise carvings and finishes as smooth as a calm sea. It has a golden hue that turns honey-colored over time, and is surprisingly durable for its light weight.

We chose boxwood because it represents what we are: close, discreet, and resilient. It's a wood that speaks of deep roots and quiet beauty.

Ebony: deep elegance

Ebony is one of the densest, darkest, and most valuable woods in the world. Deep black with warm reflections, its presence conveys strength and sobriety . In jewelry, it provides contrast, depth, and an almost mineral feel, as if the earth itself had been transformed into a gem.

We like to use it in simple shapes, so its character speaks for itself. It's ideal for those looking for a piece of jewelry with symbolic weight, a small personal totem .

Bubinga: exotic expressiveness

Bubinga originates from Central Africa and is notable for its reddish veins, natural shine, and hardness. It has a bolder personality, with patterns resembling flames or moving water. In our hands, it transforms into expressive, joyful, and vibrant jewelry .

It is the wood we choose when we want to tell stories of movement, energy, or contained passion.

Sustainability, honesty and lasting beauty

All our wood comes from certified suppliers selected according to sustainability and responsible harvesting criteria. We prefer recycled wood, cabinetmaking surpluses, or wood from controlled logging. It's not just what we create that matters, but how we do it.

Furthermore, by avoiding harsh industrial processes, our pieces maintain their natural essence. We only use gentle finishes and vegetable oils that nourish without altering them.

A jewel with soul

Wood isn't a resource: it's a traveling companion. Each Curruchela jewel is a conversation between the material and the hands that work it. A piece that shines not with ostentation, but with presence, warmth, and authenticity .

If you, too, feel an affinity for what's natural, for what ages gracefully and has a soul of its own, perhaps our jewelry isn't just an accessory. Perhaps it's a way of recognizing you.
